A completed-month fuel reading
The source outlook was released on 6 October 2026, with inputs finalized on 1 October; future values below are forecasts.
EIA reports U.S. retail diesel averaged $6.29/gallon in September. This is a national pump-price reference, not a quotation for an individual haulier or a worldwide transport tariff.

From pump price to project invoice
Our analysis: a carrier’s exposure depends on distance, payload, empty return legs and its fuel clause. A transformer shipment may also need permits, escorts and specialist handling. Fuel is one part of the delivered price; applying the diesel percentage change to the entire freight bill would overstate its direct effect.
Comparable freight offers
For procurement, request the base haulage price and fuel surcharge separately, with the same route and delivery window. An indexed clause should identify its benchmark and reset interval. This lets teams assess a fuel scenario without confusing it with changes in vehicle availability or handling scope.
