First vessel in charter series
OE Digital reported on October 6 that MISC named Th’ailib, the first of 3 new LNG carriers secured under long-term charter agreements with QatarEnergy. The 174,000-cubic-metre vessel was named at Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea.
Th’ailib is scheduled to enter a firm 15-year charter with QatarEnergy in 2026; 2 additional vessels are scheduled for delivery.
Fleet programme and efficiency features
The 3 vessels are part of the second phase of QatarEnergy’s LNG fleet programme. MISC’s involvement totals 15 vessels across both phases, following a first phase involving 12 carriers.
The new ship has dual-fuel engines, a reliquefaction system and air lubrication, technologies intended to improve fuel use and reduce emissions intensity.
