A shared rule for renewable cuts

ANEEL’s board voted 4–1 on 6 October to share energy-related curtailment across wind, solar and eligible hydropower plants. Hydropower units with turbinable spilled energy will join in stages after the system preparation and shadow-testing periods. The decision concludes the third phase of Public Consultation 45/2019, which has addressed operating criteria for reducing or limiting generation in the national grid.

Hydro participation will ramp up

ONS receives six months to prepare its systems, followed by a 12-month shadow period before the rule takes effect. Hydropower’s eligible share then rises through four cycles: 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. The vote concerns energy-related cuts; ANEEL will separately review whether cuts classified as external availability or electrical reliability should be reclassified.
