Utility-scale solar project

GLA & Company reported on October 4 that the Masdar and Fouad AlGhanim & Sons consortium had been selected to develop the project, procured by MEWRE through KAPP.

The 1.1 GW photovoltaic plant is described as Kuwait’s first utility-scale solar PV project.

Grid connection and power sales

The project includes a 400 kV transmission substation and will deliver its electricity to the national grid.

The consortium’s power purchase agreement with MEWRE is for 30 years; financial bids for the developer contract were opened in July 2026.
