Second term in IRENA-led alliance
WAM reported on 5 October that EMSTEEL had been reappointed co-chair of the Alliance for Industry Decarbonization (AFID) for a second term. The first appointment was in September 2024, and the new appointment was announced during New York Climate Week 2026. EMSTEEL will share the co-chair role with BASF in the alliance led by the International Renewable Energy Agency.
Focus on industrial emissions
AFID brings industry, technology and energy participants together to advance practical decarbonization solutions. EMSTEEL says its own programme includes clean electricity, efficiency, green hydrogen, carbon capture and lower-carbon building materials; these are company aims and workstreams, not quantified new emissions cuts announced in this report.
