The Electricity Sector Regulatory Authority presented its first 100-day report on 5 October. Director general Soraya Aziz-Moto said the regulator had handled energy investment files worth $2.3 billion and covering 22 projects with potential capacity of about 2.6 GW.

Pipeline is not operating capacity
The ARE said the figure reflects projects examined, not new generation already connected to the grid. Its chief also cited an estimated 2 GW power deficit for mining, potentially rising to 3 GW if local mineral processing expands.
