WEG Clinches R$660 Million in Substation Contracts for 500 kV Power Transformers and Mobile Grid Units in Brazil

Brazilian electrical engineering multinational WEG S.A. has secured major supply contracts valued at approximately R660 million (120M USD) to provide 500 kV power transformers, shunt reactors, and containerized mobile substations to Brazilian transmission developers.

High-Voltage Fleet Expansion for Solar and Wind Clusters

The order package includes several three-phase 500 kV generator step-up (GSU) transformers rated up to 300 MVA, engineered for utility-scale photovoltaic complexes in the state of Minas Gerais and wind farms in Bahia.

The transformers feature low-loss magnetic core laminations and fire-safe natural ester dielectric insulation, manufactured at WEG’s Blumenau and Betim transformer facilities.

Rapid-Deployment 230/138 kV Mobile Substations

WEG will also supply multi-trailer mobile substations equipped with compact hybrid switchgear, disconnectors, and automated protection panels.

These mobile units allow grid operators to execute emergency bypass maneuvers and scheduled transformer maintenance without interrupting power transmission to regional distribution grids.
