Regional infrastructure priorities
Saudi Press Agency reported on 5 October that GCC Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi called electricity and water strategic priorities during the 31st GCC Electricity and Water Cooperation Committee meeting in Manama. The meeting reviewed directives to expand the regional power grid and study water interconnection.
Demand and interconnection savings
Albudaiwi cited GCC electricity generation of about 876,000 GWh in 2025, up 9.6%, and desalinated-water output of about 8.5 billion cubic metres, up 10.8%. He said the electricity interconnection delivered more than $952 million in savings in 2025 and over $5.2 billion cumulatively.
