Proposal for regional power markets
Vanguard reported on 6 October that the Clean Energy Legal Working Group urged Nigeria to develop interconnected regional electricity grids and power markets. It made the proposal at a press briefing on recommendations for the proposed Electricity Act Amendment Bill 2026.
Rules for shared infrastructure
The group called for clear rules on interstate infrastructure, power wheeling, regional power pools, cost sharing and dispute resolution. It said smaller smart grids could help integrate renewable generation and reduce reliance on a single national network.
