Low water curbs hydro output
At a 1 October press briefing, SNEL director general Teddy Lwamba said sharply lower water levels had forced some generating units to stop. The seasonal decline was affecting electricity service across the Democratic Republic of Congo, especially in Kinshasa.
Floating plant proposed
Lwamba said SNEL had selected a floating power plant with 134 MW of capacity, which he expects to improve service in Kinshasa by 20%. He also said public institutions account for 25% of electricity use while leaving bills unpaid.
