More time for the investigation
Vanguard reported on 6 October that the independent panel investigating the deaths of 37 miners in NSCDC custody asked for two additional weeks to complete its report. Chairman Jonathan Kure said forensic and pathology results were still outstanding.
Preliminary findings
Kure said the panel had identified institutional lapses and overzealousness, while emphasizing that its work was continuing. It had inspected the custody facility and mining site, conducted autopsies, and gathered statements from survivors, families and officers.
