Children absent from school

Mines.cd reported on 5 October that local activist Rams Malikidogo said more than 1,000 children were present at mining sites in Mambasa territory, Ituri province, instead of attending school. The account was attributed to the activist and local civil society.

Authorities urged to intervene

The children were reportedly carrying out artisanal gold extraction at sites including Russie, Yolo and Njiapanda-Bela. The activist called on provincial and national authorities to protect children and help them return to school.
