Two rounds of arrests

The Miners reported on 6 October that troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade had arrested 14 suspected illegal miners in Kogi in two operations. State security adviser Jerry Omodara said eight suspects arrested the previous week had been handed to NSCDC and charged to court; six more were detained on Monday.

Cases move to authorities

Omodara warned against transporting contraband and said illegal mining was linked to insecurity. The six newer suspects were to undergo investigation and possible prosecution, according to the Kogi NSCDC commandant.
