Power Minister Joseph Tegbe said the President approved starting the process to build Eastern and Western electricity grids, and procurement was underway. The government expected benefits in two to three years; the report does not say construction was complete or the grids were operational. A nationwide technical audit had also begun to identify transmission faults and prioritise repairs or replacements before interventions. Tegbe said Nigeria had been clustered into three energy zones and described some transmission towers and lines as roughly 50 years old.
