Hatch — GravitHy iron plant enters FEED

GravitHy appointed Hatch for FEED of its planned low-carbon iron facility at Fos-sur-Mer, France. The design targets 2 million tonnes annually of direct reduced iron or hot briquetted iron using hydrogen. Hatch defines process integration, costs, constructability, execution strategy and tender packages; execution was planned from 2028 subject to investment decisions.

Engineering interpretation

Hydrogen production, iron reduction and reliable electricity supply form the main technical interfaces of the proposed industrial system. FEED needs to balance those flows with plant flexibility and port logistics. The output figure is a design objective for GravitHy’s facility, not Hatch’s own production. Tender information must reflect the chosen process basis before owners compare technology, equipment and construction proposals.

Delivery responsibilities

A design study converts an owner’s objectives into an engineering basis that can be priced, reviewed and taken into subsequent execution. Process balances, utilities, constructability and tender packages must be consistent before contracts advance. The design team should identify unresolved interfaces and decisions that remain with the owner. Selecting a study provider is evidence of technical development, not confirmation of a final investment decision, a construction start or operating capacity. Dates quoted as future plans retain that status until a separate milestone is reported.
