UAE launches AI platform for tourist VAT refunds

The Federal Tax Authority launched an AI-powered tourist VAT refund platform at Zayed International, Dubai International and Sharjah International airports. From the scheme’s 2018 launch through October 2026, refunds totalled about AED 4.2 billion across 25 million transactions. The scheme connected about 16,700 retail outlets; kiosks handled 22.4% of all refund transactions.
