Syrian Railways resumes fuel haulage from Baniyas

Rail shipments to Hama and Aleppo power plants restarted on 1 October after a 50-day refinery-maintenance pause.

Syrian Railways resumed moving fuel oil from Baniyas refinery to the Zara power plant in Hama and Radwaniyah plant in Aleppo on 1 October, after a 50-day halt for refinery maintenance. The Tartous branch said about 5,300 rail tankers had moved since the start of 2026, each carrying 60 tonnes. Officials said rail capacity can reduce road congestion and fuel use; any increase in shipments depends on fuel availability at Baniyas.
