Syria is working to expand domestic seed production to lower farming costs and reduce import dependence. The seed establishment set targets of 60,000 tonnes of treated wheat seed and 6,000 tonnes of barley seed for the 2025–2026 season, while international partners support research and multiplication fields. Its Deir Ezzor branch restarted seed treatment after 14 years and aims for 8,000 tonnes next year; officials cautioned that self-sufficiency will take years.
