Cotton planting falls sharply in Deir Ezzor as costs rise

Farmers planted about 10,000 dunams against a provincial plan of 84,636, citing high fuel costs and uncertain prices.

SANA reported that Deir Ezzor farmers planted about 10,000 dunams of cotton this season, compared with a planned 84,636 dunams. The Farmers’ Union said planted area was down 50–60% from last year, attributing the decline to fuel and production costs, limited support and the absence of an official purchase price. Farmers called for affordable inputs and a price that covers costs.
