Farmers in Latakia told SANA that frost, hail and fog damaged apple orchards at different stages of the season. Some reportedly lost their entire crop, while yields in other orchards fell by about half. Growers asked authorities and the Farmers’ Assistance Fund for help, and requested an extension of the export suspension and prices that reflect production costs. Farmer Salim Murshid said his apple production cost was about 50 new Syrian pounds per kilogram; this is one farmer’s cost, not a market price.
