Homs water-resources directorate and the Aga Khan Foundation were rehabilitating the al-Hayya and Hubub al-Rih canals in northern rural Homs to improve Orontes River water delivery and reduce losses. The canals serve about 1,000 hectares and approximately 65,000 beneficiaries. Work began about a month before publication and was scheduled to take 3 months, covering about 14 kilometres of canals, including desilting, bank repairs, side gates, paths and intakes. The project was still underway.
