The Central Bank of Syria said it had begun the second phase of a campaign with the Interior Ministry against unlicensed currency exchange and remittance activity, following an initial warning phase. The bank said inspections found people continuing to operate without licences after warnings; authorities detained them, filed official reports and seized money allegedly prepared for unlicensed activity. Investigations were continuing, with referral to the competent judiciary still planned. The bank said the first phase had issued 755 warnings on 10 October.
