## Powering the World’s Flagship 4 GW Green Hydrogen Mega-Plant

Formally awarded on September 30, 2026, the multibillion-riyal contracts mandate the engineering, procurement, and construction of four heavy-duty Bulk Supply Point (BSP) substations. The facilities will interface multi-gigawatt solar and wind generation with NEOM Green Hydrogen Company’s (NGHC) electrolyzer plants.

Each substation features double-busbar 400 kV and 132 kV gas-insulated switchgear engineered for severe desert coastal environments characterized by saline humidity, ambient temperatures reaching 52°C, and abrasive sand ingress.

## Heavy 500 MVA Power Transformers and Harmonic Mitigation

Each substation incorporates banks of 500 MVA 400/132/33 kV primary power transformers equipped with directed forced-oil air-cooled (ODAF) radiators, specialized polymer bushings, and on-load tap changers designed for continuous heavy cyclical loading.

To mitigate severe harmonic currents produced by hundreds of solid-state hydrogen electrolyzer rectifiers, SEC mandated the installation of ±200 Mvar dynamic STATCOMs and switched harmonic filter banks directly at the 33 kV tertiary bus.

## Accelerating Saudi Vision 2030 Renewable Interconnections

The four substations are slated for phased energization throughout 2027 and 2028, aligning with the commercial commissioning of the green ammonia export terminal at the Port of NEOM.
