Tenaris Global Services invested about $10 million to refurbish and upgrade its thermal-insulation plant in Onne, Rivers State. The upgrade includes a five-layer polypropylene thermal-insulation coating line; Tenaris said it is the only facility of that type in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The company commissioned the plant after completing pipe-coating work for the Bonga North deepwater project. That campaign used three-layer polypropylene anti-corrosion coating and five-layer thermal insulation. Tenaris said the accelerated work in Nigeria added local capacity for complex offshore pipe-coating projects.
