NUPRC said it had identified more than 788,000 barrels per day of shut-in oil production across 63 operators and was targeting restoration of those volumes. The figure is a target, not restored output. From January through September 2026, the commission said 77 wells were successfully re-entered and 128 wells were approved for drilling.
At a conference in Lagos, the commission also listed advancing offshore projects estimated at US$30–50 billion to final investment decision and raising domestic gas delivery from about two-thirds of the obligation to full delivery among its priorities. The article attributed the remarks to the NUPRC chief executive and an NUPRC social-media post.
