NUPRC said it mapped fields awarded in the 2025 oil-and-gas bid round to existing production facilities so future operators can plan development and pursue first oil. Awardees still need crude-handling agreements with facility owners; mapping does not mean the fields are producing or agreements are complete.
NUPRC chief executive Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan said national output averaged about 1.7 million barrels per day at the time and peaked at 1.9 million barrels per day on some days. The commission also said it was engaging operators to reopen shut-in wells and developing strategies for heavy-oil deposits.
