# Nigeria’s food-import FX use reaches $1.19 billion in first half

The Guardian reported that the Central Bank of Nigeria’s second-quarter statistical bulletin put foreign exchange used for food imports at \$1.19 billion in H1 2026, compared with \$1.07 billion a year earlier. The article reported an 11.41% year-on-year increase, or \$121.52 million, using the underlying figures; the displayed billion-dollar totals are rounded. The rise in Q2 use outweighed a decline in Q1.

A separate National Bureau of Statistics measure put the naira value of food and beverage imports at ₦3.30 trillion in H1 2026, compared with ₦3.40 trillion a year earlier, a 3.1% decline. The dollar foreign-exchange-use figure and the naira import-value figure are separate statistical measures, not one comparable growth series.
