# Bonny methanol and fertiliser plant remains a proposal

Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency described a proposed gas-based methanol and fertiliser plant in Bonny, estimated at US\$3.5 billion and promoted by Best Options Chemical with China National Chemical Engineering Group Corporation (CNCECC) and community stakeholders. CNCECC was expected to provide 80% of the estimated cost, about US\$2.8 billion; the remaining 20%, about US\$700 million, was not specified as secured funding.

The agency said investor assessments considered Bonny, Orashi, Omoku and Onne, citing gas access and ocean proximity for the selected location. The MoU is preliminary: financing arrangements and regulatory approvals remain before a final investment decision. No construction was reported as begun.
