Nigeria’s INEC plans an AI division ahead of the 2027 elections
BusinessDay reported on 19 October that Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission plans to create an Artificial Intelligence Division within its ICT Department. The unit is expected to assess emerging technologies, address risks such as deepfakes and explore bounded uses including data-driven risk assessment and election logistics. INEC also said it is working with technology and development partners on an AI governance framework. The proposal is an institutional plan, not a deployed election system.
