## Forward demand signal

The source outlook was released on 6 October 2026, with inputs finalized on 1 October; future values below are forecasts.

EIA forecasts U.S. commercial electricity demand growth of 2.8% in 2027. This is a sector forecast, not a commitment to new substations or an October consumption total.

## Why demand does not equal equipment orders

Our analysis: additional energy consumption affects investment only through its location, timing and peak load. An existing connection may absorb some growth; another site may require a new transformer or feeder. Annual kilowatt-hours cannot establish a transformer’s required rating without a load profile and network study.

## Budget the connection as well as the energy

For industrial projects, compare the energy purchase with connection capacity, reinforcement charges and commissioning time. Separating these costs helps distinguish a cheaper electricity contract from a cheaper complete project. The demand outlook supports scenario planning; local connection studies determine the equipment scope and delivery schedule.
