## Engineering perspective

Index membership concerns market representation rather than an engineering contract award. For contractor selection, financial-market visibility should be considered alongside project experience, balance-sheet disclosures and the resources assigned to delivery.

Engineering interpretation: financial disclosures describe a defined reporting period and accounting perimeter. Revenue, operating profit, new orders and backlog measure different aspects of business activity. For contractor comparisons, examine the relevant division, timing of project recognition and joint-venture treatment; a consolidated result does not establish the margin or completion status of any individual construction contract.
