# Bird Construction reports CAD 6.1 billion contracted backlog in Q2

> Bird Construction’s second-quarter results distinguish contracted backlog from work awarded but not yet contracted. At 30 June 2026, contracted backlog was approximately CAD 6.1 billion, while pending backlog was approximately CAD 6.0 billion. The pending category includes master service agreements and other recurring revenue expected over future periods. The figures describe a portfolio across the company’s operations, rather than a single EPC award or completed construction output. They provide different levels of contractual visibility and should retain their separate labels.

## Engineering and delivery perspective

Backlog is useful for evaluating workload, but it is not an equipment capacity or a commissioning milestone. For industrial delivery, procurement lead times, available trade labour and the sequencing of civil, mechanical and electrical packages affect conversion into work performed. Recurring maintenance agreements also have a different execution rhythm from a large capital project. An engineering comparison should therefore consider the mix and contractual status of the portfolio instead of treating all future work as one turnkey commitment.

## Contract and project comparison

For project comparisons, identify the owner, delivery model and contracted package before assigning responsibility for the complete asset. An award, negotiation, backlog figure or construction target describes a different stage from commissioning and sustained operation. Review the boundaries between civil work, equipment supply, electrical systems and controls, together with the acceptance documentation and the owner’s operating requirements. These engineering considerations are an interpretation of the delivery context, rather than additional project milestones announced by Bird.
