## Solar power supports water access

The Associated Press reported on 6 October that Nova Sociedade, a river community in Pará, installed solar panels in June to run pumps that fill water-storage tanks. The system serves all 36 families in the village. Before the installation, residents relied on diesel generators for basic electricity, while the pumps help provide clean water after a severe drought.

## Similar systems reach other villages

The Amazon-based nonprofit Saúde e Alegria has equipped 29 other communities with similar solar technology. These are off-grid systems, so they operate separately from utility networks and reduce dependence on diesel fuel. The AP report describes installations made earlier in 2026 and their role in improving local electricity and water access; it does not report a new October commissioning.
