Holcim said its Fujairah cement plant is capturing CO₂ from active flue gas, transporting it to a nearby underground site, and injecting it into reactive ultramafic rock, where it mineralises into stable carbonate rock. Holcim described this as the UAE’s first live-condition carbon-capture and underground-mineralisation pilot in the cement industry.
The pilot combines Holcim’s plant with technology developed by 44.01; NT Energies provides carbon capture, Shell CANSOLV technology is used, and Gulf Cryo supports CO₂ transport. The partners present it as a pilot for a potential permanent-storage pathway; no quantified daily capture rate or annual emissions reduction was reported.
