Vietnam’s EVNNPT Energizes Key 500 kV Circuit 3 Substation Bays and 900 MVA Transformer Banks on North-South Backbone

Vietnam’s National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) has officially energized crucial 500 kV switchyard expansions and multi-bank 900 MVA 500/220 kV autotransformers along the 519 km 500 kV Circuit 3 transmission backbone.

Securing Bulk Electricity Flow to Northern Industrial Zones

Completed in record time across the provinces of Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, and Ninh Binh, the 500 kV Circuit 3 line relieves severe transmission bottlenecks between Central Vietnam and the manufacturing hubs surrounding Hanoi.

EVNNPT commissioned two new 900 MVA three-phase autotransformer banks at the Pho Noi and Thanh Hoa 500 kV substations, accompanied by 500 kV SF6 circuit breaker bays and digital tele-protection signaling.

Doubling Transmission Capacity Across Inter-Regional Corridors

The energization raises power transfer limits from central renewable generation zones to northern load centers from 2,500 MW to over 5,000 MW.

The achievement safeguards Vietnam’s industrial manufacturing sector against dry-season power outages, supporting robust double-digit industrial growth.
