Türkiye Unveils 108 Billion Energy Roadmap:28 Billion Dedicated to 28 GW HVDC Corridors and Transmission

Turkey’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources targets 120 GW of wind and solar capacity by 2035, backed by 9,580 km of new HVDC transmission corridors and 15,000 km of high-voltage AC lines to evacuate power from eastern generation to western industrial hubs.

$28 Billion Grid Modernization for 120 GW Wind and Solar Target

The Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has formally presented its comprehensive 108 billion investment roadmap through 2035. Aiming to expand national wind and solar generation capacity to 120 GW, the strategy allocates28 billion exclusively to high-voltage transmission infrastructure operated by TEİAŞ.

Electricity is projected to meet 35% of Türkiye’s final energy demand by 2035, driven by rapid industrial electrification, electric mobility, and grid connections for large data processing clusters.

9,580 km of 28 GW HVDC Supergrid Corridors and 15,000 km AC Lines

To bridge the geographical divide between primary renewable resource zones in Central and Eastern Anatolia and heavy electricity consumption in the Marmara and Aegean industrial belts, TEİAŞ will construct 9,580 kilometers of High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission corridors with a cumulative rating of 28 GW.

Complementing the direct-current corridors, the roadmap mandates 15,000 kilometers of new 380 kV and 154 kV alternating current (AC) lines, modernizing hundreds of transmission substations with digital IEC 61850 process bus protection and dynamic reactive power compensation.
