Terna Subsidiary Tamini Wins Landmark Contract for Three 400 kV Autotransformers to Reinforce Danish Power Grid

Tamini Transformers, part of Italy's Terna Group, has been selected by Danish transmission system operator Energinet to supply three ultra-high-voltage 400 kV autotransformers. The units are engineered to balance growing offshore wind feed-in from the North Sea and enhance regional interconnectivity across Scandinavia and northern Europe.

Expanding Scandinavian Transmission Resilience

Danish TSO Energinet selected Tamini following an extensive European tender focused on total lifecycle losses, acoustic performance, and high short-circuit withstand capabilities. Each 400 kV autotransformer will be installed at critical transmission nodes linking offshore wind landing points to Denmark's primary 400 kV backbone.

The units feature low-loss Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel (CRGO) cores with Step-Lap mitred joints, ensuring no-load loss reductions of more than 18% compared to legacy Danish substation assets.

Stringent Acoustic and Environmental Specifications

Given the suburban proximity of Danish transmission substations, the autotransformers are equipped with multi-stage sound baffles and low-noise variable-speed cooling fans to keep acoustic noise below 58 dB(A) at 100% rated load.

Deliveries are scheduled to commence in early 2027, supporting Energinet's long-term energy transition targets.
