TenneT, Hitachi Energy, and Larsen & Toubro Finalize Engineering Release for 2 GW LanWin 5 and Nederwiek 3 Platforms

European transmission system operator TenneT has executed full project execution releases under its 2 GW offshore cooperation framework with Hitachi Energy and Larsen & Toubro (L&T), authorizing detailed engineering and procurement for LanWin 5 (Germany) and Nederwiek 3 (Netherlands).

Standardized 525 kV HVDC Modular Converter Platforms

The multi-billion-euro agreements cover the complete engineering, procurement, and fabrication of two identical 2 GW standardized offshore converter stations and their onshore grid-tie counterparts.

Each offshore platform will deploy Hitachi Energy’s high-power Voltage Source Converters (VSC) and 525 kV gas-insulated DC switchgear, while L&T will fabricate the 30,000-tonne topside and jacket structures at its Hazira yard.

Harmonizing North Sea Supply Chains

By standardizing equipment designs across Dutch and German territorial waters, TenneT reduces delivery lead times by 18 months and establishes mutual spare-part interchangeability.

LanWin 5 and Nederwiek 3 are scheduled for grid energization in 2030 and 2031, directly supporting the Esbjerg and Ostend intergovernmental North Sea energy declarations.
