Unlocking Gigawatts of ScotWind Offshore Power Evacuation
Part of the UK’s Pathway to 2030 network upgrades, the new 110 km double-circuit 400 kV transmission corridor provides the bulk capacity needed to transfer power from newly leased ScotWind floating and fixed-bottom offshore projects to central belt consumption centers.
The approved design replaces legacy 132 kV infrastructure, multiplying power transfer limits fivefold while minimizing the physical pylon count across the rural landscape.
£320 Million GIS Substation Contracts Awarded to Tier-1 Consortiums
Turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction contracts have been awarded to Hitachi Energy and GE Vernova to build indoor 400 kV Gas-Insulated Switchgear halls and deliver eight 400/275 kV 500 MVA autotransformers.
The substations feature visual screening berms, ultra-quiet radiator assemblies, and digital circuit breaker condition monitoring, with main civil construction initiating in Spring 2027.
